Serial entrepreneur and New York Times Bestselling Author, Sophia Amoruso, is back with a new venture to help business owners, freelancers and creatives navigate entrepreneurship. With an unprecedented track record building iconic brands, Amoruso evolved from one of the most prominent figures in fashion to a cultural thought leader, inspiring a new generation of founders, professionals, freelancers and creatives. From bootstrapping NastyGal to $30 million in profitability, raising $60 million in venture capital and scaling the business to over $100 million in revenue to growing Girlboss into a massive network for women, Amoruso has had experience under her belt that other entrepreneurs can benefit from without making the same mistakes she has made.“I will always be the founder of NastyGal and I’ll always be the founder of Girlboss. I’ll always be extremely proud of what I built in those two companies. I’m really proud for the most part of how they have carried on” she said.
Amoruso most recently exited Girlboss in the Spring of 2020 due to the effects of the pandemic and quickly pivoted to start her newest venture, Business Class. The branding of the course was inspired by the double entendre of flying business class but unlike traditional business courses, Amoruso aims to provide practical and real advice, tools, and exercises. The seven flight course runs over eight weeks with worksheets, videos, reading materials, weekly group sessions with Amoruso, guest lecturers and a networking portal named The Longe for students to interact in.
“We cover everything from finding your strengths both personally and professionally, hiring, competition, defining your customer, creating your brand identity, understanding legal to marketing and PR. It runs the gambit. Over the eight weeks, it’s guided where I’m more involved. Then after those eight weeks that you have lifetime access to Business Class and The Lounge, it’s a resource you can come back to you forever,” Amoruso explained. Here’s what you can expect to learn from Business Class.
Identifying Your Strengths
Before taking off into the depths of the course. Amoruso sets the stage to help you identify your unique business apart while learning how to leverage those strengths. You’ll also define and refine your Peak Product—the product or service that will skyrocket your business along with identifying the white space that will set you apart from the competition.
Building A Brand
Having a unique product or service is just the first step for Amoruso’s deep dive. Understanding how to create a brand behind the business is Amoruso’s speciality. You can expect to learn how to craft your brand identity, creative assets, developing a website, social media strategy, pitching to press and even navigating Facebook Ads and SEO.
Connecting With Your Customer
Finding your perfect customer and connecting with them can be challenging. Amoruso clearly maps out how to to attract your ideal customer while including them in your community. Community building is key to the longevity of your customer, but there is an art to building a long lasting relationship with your customer in between complaints, feedback and every touch point they come across.
Growing Your Team
If you are a new entrepreneur or business owner hiring, firing and everything in between can be overwhelming. Amoruso shares best practices on how to set up payroll, healthcare, project management systems and communication channels. But more importantly you can expect to learn how to lead and build a solid culture.
Legal & Finance
Have you ever lost money or time while negotiating within your business, setting up legal documents or finance accounts? Most entrepreneurs have. While Amoruso isn’t a lawyer or an accountant she has made smart decisions and terrible mistakes that other entrepreneurs can learn from. Amoruso’s goal is to help others understand the importance of different legal entities, IP, trademarks, patents and money management systems. It doesn’t matter how great of a product or brand you have if your backend is buttoned up.
